This guide walks you step-by-step through setting up a Claude Opus 5 proxy for SillyTavern using MegaNova.

Prerequisites

Before beginning, ensure you have:

  • An operational installation of SillyTavern (v1.10 or higher recommended).
  • A valid MegaNova API Key with active balance/credits.
  • Access to the MegaNova Proxy endpoint dashboard.

Step 1: Obtain Your MegaNova Endpoint & API Key

  1. Log into your MegaNova account dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the API Access / Proxy section.
  3. Locate the Claude Opus 5 model routing option and copy your unique API key.
  4. Copy the Base URL provided for OpenAI/Claude proxy compatibility (typically formatted as [https://api.meganova.ai/v1](https://api.meganova.ai/v1) or similar endpoint provided in your dashboard).

Step 2: Configure SillyTavern API Connection

  1. Launch your SillyTavern instance in your web browser.
  2. Click the API Connections icon (the plug icon in the top navigation menu).
  3. Under API Type, select Chat Completion (OpenAI Compatible) or Claude/Anthropic depending on your specific MegaNova proxy endpoint type. (For most MegaNova proxy setups, selecting Chat Completion with a custom base URL works best).
  4. Set the API Server URL to your MegaNova Base URL.
  5. Paste your MegaNova API key into the API Key field.
  6. Click Connect / Fetch Models.

Step 3: Select and Customize the Opus 5 Model

  1. From the Model dropdown list, select claude-opus-5 (or the corresponding model ID string indicated by MegaNova).
  2. Set your Context Length (Token Limit) according to your MegaNova tier—Opus 5 supports large context windows, but setting it between 8192 and 16384 ensures optimal speed and memory balance for SillyTavern.
  3. Adjust Max Response Tokens to 500 - 1000 tokens to allow room for detailed descriptive prose without hitting unexpected cuts.

Step 4: Fine-Tune Sampler & Prompt Settings

To get the most captivating prose out of Claude Opus 5:

  • Temperature: Set around 0.7 to 0.9 for a natural blend of creativity and consistency.
  • Formatting Sequences: Enable Custom Stopping Strings in SillyTavern (e.g., \nUser:, \n{{user}}:) if you notice persona leakage.
  • System Prompt: Ensure your SillyTavern main prompt emphasizes character-driven perspectives and sensory detail.

  • 401 Unauthorized: Double-check that your MegaNova API key was copied without extra trailing spaces.

High Latency: Opus 5 is a massive model. If initial generation feels slow, lower your context history size slightly in SillyTavern's settings.
