How to Use Spaces to Organize Multiple Characters
Every character, agent, workflow, and integration in MegaNova Studio lives inside a Space. Spaces are containers — isolated environments where everything related to a project or a client stays together.
If you are building more than a handful of characters, understanding how spaces work changes how you manage your work.
What Is a Space
A Space holds all the resources that belong together:
- Characters (and their versions, lorebooks, and embeds)
- Agents
- Workflows
- Integrations (Freshdesk, Zendesk, Teams, Slack, etc.)
When you switch spaces, the entire interface switches context. Characters from Space A do not appear when you are in Space B. Integrations configured in one space are not available in another. Each space is its own environment.
Personal Space vs. Project Space
The space selector in the sidebar labels each space as one of two types:
Personal Space — your default space, marked with a star icon. This is where MegaNova saves new characters and generated images unless you specify otherwise. You have exactly one default space at a time.
Project Space — any additional space you create. You can have multiple project spaces. They have the same capabilities as the personal space; they just do not receive new content by default unless you change the default setting.
Creating a New Space
Click the space selector in the top-left of the sidebar, then click + New Space.
The creation modal asks for:
Space name — defaults to {your name}'s space. Change it to something descriptive: Client: Acme Corp, Brand Characters, Support Agents, or whatever reflects the project.
Invite members — add collaborators by email at creation time. Set their role as Collaborator (can edit) or Viewer (read-only). You can invite up to 2 members per space.
Auto-save to this space — if checked, new characters and images you create are automatically placed in this space instead of your default space.
After clicking Create space, the new space appears in the sidebar selector and becomes your active space.
Space Settings
Right-click the space name or open Space Settings from the selector. The settings modal has five sections:
Basic Settings
- Name — rename the space at any time
- Profile photo color — choose a color for the space's avatar (8 options: yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue-purple, light blue, green). The avatar shows the first letter of the space name in the selected color — this makes it easy to identify spaces at a glance in the sidebar
- Default space toggle — mark this as your default space. Only one space can be default at a time; enabling this unsets the previous default
- Storage bar — shows how much of the space's storage quota you have used
Members
Shows everyone in the space with their role. The Invite Members button lets you add collaborators after creation.
Permissions
Three controls:
- Who can invite others —
Space owner and admin,Space owner only, orAll members - Allow access requests — people can send requests to join the space
- Auto-accept requests — approved automatically when enabled; manual review when disabled
Cloud Storage
Configure an external storage provider for this space's files. Storage providers are set per-space.
Auto Sync
Enable automatic daily sync from Google Drive into the space. Only images are synced. Connect your Google Drive account here to activate it.
Practical Organization Patterns
Separate client projects
If you build characters for multiple clients, each client gets its own space. Their characters, integrations (say, a Freshdesk integration pointing to their helpdesk), and deployed agents stay isolated. When you are working on Client A, switching to their space gives you only their resources. Client B's work is not visible.
Separate character lines by purpose
If you run a support character line and a roleplay character line, put them in separate spaces. The support line connects to Freshdesk or Zendesk integrations. The roleplay line does not need those integrations at all. Keeping them in separate spaces prevents integration configs from one line appearing in the other's dropdown menus.
Personal experiments vs. production characters
Use your Personal Space for work-in-progress and experimental characters. Publish-ready characters that are actively embedded on websites or deployed as agents live in a dedicated production space. The separation makes it obvious which characters are live and which are still being tested.
Team collaboration
Invite a collaborator to a specific space. They can work on the characters inside that space without seeing anything in your other spaces. A collaborator role lets them edit; a viewer role gives them read access only. Access requests can be enabled so others can ask to join without you issuing an invitation first.
Switching Between Spaces
Click the space selector in the top-left sidebar. It shows your current space name and color. The dropdown lists all your spaces, each labeled as Personal Space (default) or Project Space. Click any space to switch to it instantly.
The active space determines:
- Which characters appear in the character list
- Which agents appear in the agent list
- Which integrations are available for workflows and tools
- Where the API for deployed agents routes to (agents belong to a specific space)
The Default Space
Only one space is the default at a time. The default space is where:
- New characters you create are saved
- Images you generate are stored
- Auto-save during character creation lands
To change which space is the default: open Space Settings for the space you want to make default, go to Basic Settings, and enable the Default space toggle. The previous default space is automatically demoted to a Project Space.
If you use the Auto-save to this space option during creation, new content skips the default and goes directly to that space.
Space Limits
Your plan determines how many spaces you can have. If you exceed the limit, the creation modal shows an error: "Space limit exceeded. You have N of M spaces."
The space count and limit are tracked per account. Deleting a space removes it and its count from your total. Deletion is permanent — all characters, agents, and integrations inside the space are removed.
