Most people describe their character in words.

Then they generate an image and wonder why it looks nothing like what they imagined.

Wrong pose. Wrong energy. Wrong face entirely.

The problem isn't the image model.

It's the translation layer between character design and visual output.

Your character's appearance already contains everything the image needs.

You just have to know how to extract it.


1. The Appearance Section Is a Prompt in Disguise

When you fill out your character's Appearance in the Blueprint Editor, you're not just writing flavor text.

You're writing a visual spec.

Every detail you describe — eye color, build, the way they carry themselves, what they're usually wearing — is raw material for image generation.

The mistake is treating appearance and image prompts as separate workflows.

They're not.

Your blueprint is the prompt.

You just need to restructure it into a format the image model can act on.


2. Start With the Non-Negotiables

Before you write a single image prompt, identify what must be consistent.

These are the visual anchors — the details that make the character recognizable across every image:

Face: Eye shape, color, distinguishing marks.

Build: Height impression, body type, posture.

Default outfit: What they wear when nothing else is specified.

Your character's psychology, their behavioral patterns, their emotional defaults — all of that shapes how they should look in a given scene.

A character described as controlled and calculating should be photographed differently than one described as impulsive and raw.

Use these sections as visual direction:

Personality → Posture and expression cues

"Calm, observant, rarely smiles without intention" → straight posture, neutral mouth, eyes slightly narrowed.

Background → Environmental details

Origin story, cultural context, setting they're native to → inform the scene behind them.

Current Scene → Active context

What are they doing right now? Where are they? What just happened?

The Blueprint isn't just for writing.

It's a visual brief waiting to be activated.


5. Write Prompts in Layers, Not Sentences

Long, unpunctuated sentences lose detail.

Image models respond better to structured input — clean layers of information with clear priority.

Avoid:

"A tall silver-haired young man with amber eyes wearing a black coat standing in a dark room with fog and candlelight looking serious"

Use instead:

Subject: tall young man, silver hair, amber eyes, sharp features
Clothing: structured black coat, silver accents, collar up
Expression: composed, cold, a hint of calculation
Environment: dark interior, candlelight, light fog
Style: cinematic, high contrast, photorealistic

Layered prompts give the model clear hierarchy.

What to prioritize.

What to fill in.

What's background.


6. Anchor Consistency With a Reference Image

Words drift.

Images don't.

Once you generate an image that matches your character — one that captures the face, the build, the presence — save it.

Use it as a reference for every subsequent generation.

This is how you maintain visual consistency across multiple scenes, moods, and moments.

Your reference image becomes the character's visual identity card.

Every new generation anchors to it.

Without a reference, you're describing the same character from memory every time.

With one, you're iterating on a fixed point.


7. Generate Scenes, Not Just Portraits

A portrait tells you what someone looks like.

A scene tells you who they are.

Once your character's appearance is locked in, start generating moments:

The way they look right before they say something cutting.
The stillness before they act.
The rare instance they've let their guard down.
The scene from their backstory you've always visualized.

These aren't decorative.

They're character depth made visible.

Every scene image adds a layer to how you — and others — understand the character.

8. Common Mistakes That Break Consistency

Changing anchor details between sessions. If you said amber eyes in session one and golden eyes in session two, the model treats them differently. Pick one. Use it everywhere.

Overloading the prompt. More detail isn't always better. Too many competing descriptors confuse output. Prioritize ruthlessly.

Forgetting pose and framing. Camera angle, distance, and pose are part of the image spec. "Close-up portrait, slightly low angle, direct eye contact" produces a completely different feel than "full body, mid shot, three-quarter turn."

Treating every generation as independent. Build a library of successful outputs. Reference them. Iterate from them. Don't start from scratch every time.

Consistency is a system, not luck.

Restructure it into layers.

Lock the anchors.

Generate.
